Position Summary

The Mortgage Closing Specialist responsibilities include preparing loan closing packages by communicating with the title company and document preparation attorney, and all other involved parties, to ensure that all paperwork is complete, accurate, and in compliance with all state and federal laws.  This position requires knowledge of the mortgage loan process and familiarity with all documents included in a mortgage loan file.  He/she will be responsible for maintaining a positive and beneficially working relationship with all members, co-workers, title companies, and all other parties involved in the mortgage loan process.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serve Texas Tech CU members and co-workers pleasantly and professionally in accordance with Texas Tech CU core values of Trust, Respect, Excellence, Kindness, and Stewardship.
  • Serve as the conduit between the lender and the closing agent.
  • Prepares closing loan package necessary for individual loan types in accordance with bank and investor guidelines as well as secondary marketing commitments and requirements.
  • Ensures the timely disclosure of 3-day Closing Disclosures and oversee the closing of loans through the pipeline.
  • Contact title companies, attorneys, loan officers and, processors to obtain documentation necessary to close mortgage loans.
  • Monitors loan status on a continual basis to ensure that timely standards are achieved.
  • Performs a pre-closing quality review of loan files prior to releasing closing package.
  • Reviews all preliminary documents provided from attorney/title company to include, but not limited to title binder, survey, hazard/flood insurance binder, closing disclosure.
  • Responds to and resolves technical and complex problems that arise.
  • Follows up on any deficiency requests by shipping and post-closing to ensure timely procedure for loan funding.
  • Facilitate the Loan Sale and Commitment of Loans to Investors.
  • Deliver closed mortgage loans to the secondary market investor.
  • Serve as the first line responder for all investor suspense conditions.
  • Coordinate the prompt response for all investor suspense conditions.
  • Activate Mortgage Insurance and Pay Private Mortgage Insurance.
  • Transfer MERS data once the mortgage loan has been purchased by the investor.

Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in finance or related fields is a plus
  • Previous mortgage loan experience preferred.
  • Experience working with Encompass is a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced team environment.
